5 Stars My girl friend loves it
I sent this to my girlfriend in Manila last year, based on the reviews I read here on Amazon. She was just getting into make-up classes and immediately got some professional make-up gigs in theater, modeling, corporate videos and feature film. She loves this book and still uses it! It is the perfect gift for anyone interested in professional make-up artistry.
3 Stars Basic but provides a good start for beginners.
This book provides the very basic fundamentals of makeup and makeup application. It provides an overview of the types of foundation, concealer, powder, lipstick, and eyeshadow available today and which is appropriate for your own skin type. I did learn a lot in regards to choosing an appropriate foundation as well as applying concealer more accurately.
The author represents various types of women of different ethnic backgrounds, I found this to be most helpful. Moreover, he utilizes predominately “everyday” women, this book is not filled with supermodels.
Again, this book is very basic, hence if you have a firm understanding of makeup and wish to expand your skill set this is probably not the book for you. On the other hand, if you are like me, overwhelmed by the countless varieties and always making the wrong choice, this book is great start.

I love this book. It is my makeup bible! The pictures are beautiful and the techniques outlined worked wonders for me. I was always clueless about makeup (total tom girl) and now I feel like a pro!

4 Stars Not stunning, but still useful
Working in the beauty industry, I already knew most of the makeup tricks and steps described here concerning contouring and highlighting, how to shape a brow, how to apply eye shadows, lipstick, blush, etc. Nevertheless, the book has been useful because it shows you how to deal effectively with every type of eye shape: hooded eyes, wide set eyes, droppy eyes, prominent eyes, etc. It also has very good explanation and photos about contouring and highlighting. With this book you can learn to do very natural makeups, which are great for every day wear. Here you won’t learn how to do different kinds of makeups (for a more formal occassion, or to go out by night, for example).
If you know nothing about makeup it will be very helpful; if you do, it maybe will teach you to refine some of your techniques, and to mix eye shadow textures and tones as the author so beautifully does.
Nevertheless, I have to say all the makeups shown in this book look just the same, as if the artist has imposed HIS OWN PERSONAL STYLE upon every woman he makeups. And then, the beautiful photos are very much edited, perfectly flawless… No makeup artist, well talented as he/she may be, can achieve such perfection as is depicted on this photos.
